The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) will hold a public hearing via webinar on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 beginning at 6 p.m. on Draft Addendum VI to the Interstate Fishery Management Plan for Spiny Dogfish.

The draft addendum: (1) proposes allowing commercial quota to be transferred between all regions and states to enable full utilization of the coastwide quota and avoid quota payback from unintended overages; and (2) includes a “scoping question” to gauge whether fishermen are interested in having the federal commercial trip limit eliminated and replaced with ASMFC’s state and regional trip limits. ASMFC does not have authority to change the federal trip limit. However, if stakeholders express interest in this proposal, ASMFC will consider making a recommendation to the New England and Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Councils to pursue the change.
