The Atlantic Large Whale Take Reduction Team (ALWTRT) will meet October 9-12, 2018 in Providence, RI.
The goal of the meeting is to develop and have initial discussions on potential modifications to the ALWTRP to further reduce impacts of U.S. fixed gear fisheries on large whales and to reduce mortality and serious injury to below PBR for right whales.
The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS, NOAA Fisheries), which is hosting the meeting, said, “This is not a decision-making meeting. Rather, we are looking to identify potential modifications that warrant further analysis in advance of an in-person Team meeting early in 2019.”
