The On-Demand Fishing Gear Conflict Working Group completed two reports to address Term of Reference (TOR) 3, “Develop strategies to reduce gear interactions between on-demand and other types of fishing gear”.

  • TOR 3A Report “Advice for Reducing Gear Interactions Resulting from Risk Reduction Measures Under Consideration for Gillnet and Other Trap/Pot Fisheries”: focuses on minimizing gillnet and other fixed gear fisheries through revising gear marking regulations and coordination with Council’s Enforcement Committee and other management bodies. (Presented at the September 2024 Council Meeting)
  • TOR 3B Report “Recommendations for Reducing Gear Interactions between On-Demand Gear Used in the Northeast Lobster/Jonah Crab Fishery and Other Types of Fishing Gear”: focuses on avoiding conflicts between “on-demand” (i.e. ropeless) gear and other gear types (fixed, mobile, recreational). It also outlines the development of new gear-marking technologies and the need for evaluation of the economic effects of using these technologies. (Presented at the September 2025 Council Meeting)
